Telašćica Nature Park
On the southeastern side of Dugi Otok, you’ll find Telašćica Nature Park, one of the Adriatic’s most stunning natural harbors. In 1988, it was declared a nature park to protect its rich biodiversity and unspoiled landscapes from overdevelopment and mass tourism.
Stretching 8 km in length and 2 km in width, Telašćica is described as the safest, most beautiful, and largest natural harbor on the Adriatic. The bay is surrounded by dramatic contrasts: serene beaches on one side, towering cliffs on the other; lush pine and holm oak forests alongside bare rocky landscapes.
Telašćica is home to more than 400 plant and animal species, as well as the famous Lake Mir, whose salty waters are believed to have healing properties. Visitors can enjoy diving, hiking, or simply taking in the jaw-dropping view from the Grpašćak viewpoint. With dolphins often seen in these waters, Telašćica offers a rare chance to connect with nature in its purest form
Vrgada Island
Just north of Murter lies the small island of Vrgada, a place where time seems to move more slowly. Home to only about 200 residents, this car-free island has preserved its wild beauty and peaceful rhythm of life. Despite having only one shop, a few cafés and restaurants, Vrgada offers an abundance of stunning beaches and pristine nature.
Often called the “Golden Island” thanks to its rare sandy coves, one of the most beautiful being Podbrizi Beach, where visitors can also see a unique natural wonder: a lone tree clinging to the edge of a cliff, standing strong against the bora wind and all weather conditions. Vrgada is a true paradise for those who love exploring on foot, immersing themselves in greenery, and enjoying the peace and charm of authentic Mediterranean life.
Krka National Park
Set in the heart of Dalmatia, Krka National Park is a land of cascading waterfalls and lush river canyons. The Krka River stretches for nearly 73 kilometers, tumbling over travertine barriers to create spectacular falls like Skradinski Buk and Roški Slap. Their refreshing mist and thunderous roar make them the perfect escape from the summer heat.
But Krka is more than just natural beauty; it’s also rich in cultural heritage. On the small island of Visovac stands a Franciscan monastery dating back to the 15th century, while along the river you’ll find old mills and archaeological sites. The most famous and most visited waterfall is Skradinski Buk, whose sound you’ll hear long before you catch sight of it. Along the trail, you can also visit an ethno village and the remains of Krka’s hydroelectric power plant, the first of its kind in Europe.

Kornati National park
No trip from Murter would be complete without exploring the Kornati Islands, often called “a nautical paradise.” This archipelago of 89 islands, islets, and reefs covers 217 km², forming the most indented island group in the Mediterranean.
As you sail through its narrow channels, you’ll be amazed by the sight of towering sea cliffs, known as the “crowns.” The highest rises 82 meters on Klobučar Island, while beneath the surface, the deepest plunges 90 meters near Piškera. For swimming and sunbathing, the sandy Lojena Beach on Levrnaka Island is a favorite, alongside idyllic bays like Opat, Ravni Žakan, and Vruje.
Beyond its stunning beaches, the Kornati Islands are rich in history and natural wonders alike. Explore the Tureta Fortress, the remains of a Venetian castle, a 16th-century fishing settlement, and over 300 kilometers of dry stone walls that stretch across the rugged landscape. Nature lovers can dive into crystal-clear waters to discover fascinating marine life, spot dolphins, loggerhead turtles, and various bird species, or hike to viewpoints offering breathtaking panoramas of the islands’ dramatic scenery.
